Water Ski Rope

Choosing the right water skiing rope is critical because it is your lifeline to the boat. The standard rope length is 70-75' from the boat including the length of the handle. Most ropes are constructed of stretchable polypropylene which will give somewhat under the weight of the skier.

When choose the rope you'll want to select a highly durable and elastic model. Elasticity ensures a more secure experience as the boat speeds up or makes turns and maneuvers. The ropes ability to give also allows it to absorb the impact of crossing through wakes as you move from one side to the other. You should select a rope which is at least ' diamond braid polyethylene or polypropylene with a breaking strength capacity of greater than 800 lbs.

The usual water ski rope will have ten differently colored sections called take-offs. The take-offs accommodate shortening and lengthening between attachment loops. This allows the skier to simply shorten the rope by a loop or two in order to get closer to the boat. It's also advisable to choose a rope with a takeoff color scheme which is bold and highly visible in any conditions. Rope keepers are an additional useful accessory. These keepers help prevent tangling when you store your rope between uses.
