Water Skis

Love to ski but hate the cold? Then water skiing is perfect for you! Whether you live near an ocean or a lake you can start water skiing. As opposed to skiing down slopes, water skiing involves being pulled. You are usually pulled by a motor boat. You skis sort of skim the surface and you hold the cord and stay upright. History says that water skiing first began in 1921. Ralph Samuelson skied with two large boards across water.

When decide you want to start water skiing you get in position. The skier will get in the water bend knees so that the top or tips of the skis are poking out of the water. Once you are ready let your boat driver know and he or she will start to pull. Make sure you have a third person around also. The third person will act as the spotter. He can let the driver know if the skier has fallen.

There are a couple of variations on water skiing also. In trick skiing you use shorter skis. In a competition the skier will attempt to do tricks while being pulled above the water.  Generally the skier will get two runs to do the most and best tricks. The judges will give a numerical score that takes in account the difficulty of the jumps. The highest score wins.

Another type of skiing is Slalom skiing. In Slalom Skiing only one ski is used. If you already have a set of water skis, then most likely you have a ski that can be used for Slalom Skiing. One ski in a set unusually comes equipped to be used as a Slalom ski. This type of water skiing is more difficult than traditional water skiing.

Of course before you hit the water you need to find skis. You can find quality skis on sale on EBay. They have new water skis or used water skis to buy.
